Patient Endurance Brings Victory

The powerlifting team has grown over the past 15 months from one dedicated lifter to 10 members—more than half the school. In his first year, Hari set multiple state records and later returned to break his own records again. What began as the focused commitment of one student and one coach has become a thriving team culture.

The team gathers 4x per week (with newer lifters 2x) to train and prepare to compete. This weekend, at their first competition this year as a team, every one of our student athletes walked away a gold medalist, and Coach Keshava earned bronze in his weight class.

The team trains at a specialized powerlifting gym, Boss Barbell Club, which generously hosted us. It is a competitive environment with world-class athletes and equipment that helps athletes push themselves to new heights.

Varsity athletes with more experience are now growing and developing by helping coach, mentor, and support newer lifters—not only perpetuating the culture of the team, but deepening their own knowledge of the sport.

Their accomplishments in strength are significant, placing them easily in the top 1% of the population by bodyweight, with many of the smaller girls outlifting much larger competitors.

The team’s greatest victory, however, is its dedication, commitment, and shared enjoyment of doing a hard thing well—and discovering how that mindset translates into every aspect of life.

Next month, this group of dedicated athletes will be off to Nationals in Texas!
